The performance obtained in the Berkeley MPEG-1 Encoder is:
I frames | 762 MB/s |
P frames | 458 MB/s |
B frames | 198 MB/s |
Average (IBBPBBP pattern) | 353 MB/s |
With the old processor used in the measurements of the paper, and as each 1920x1152 frame consists of 8640 MBs, the encoder will produce 0.04 frames per second, i.e., 24 seconds per frame!!
The memory seems not to be a problem (an IBBPBBP pattern will occupy in memory 23.2 MBytes).
