What the papers/ directory is currently being used for:

- Many of the entries in the papers database browsable
  on our web site link to PDFs in the papers/ subdirectory.

- In a number of my own papers, I have provided URLs to
  subdirectories of the papers/ directory in order to host
  supplementary material.  So I hope the papers/ subdirectory
  would not get moved in the future in a way that would
  break those URLs.  The subdirectories I have used
  are TSAP-Adaptation, eurospeech05-onset, eurospeech05-vtln,
  gelbart-ms, icslp02-gabor, and sapa04-hemmert, along with
  the files asru01-meansub-*.  Also,
  Marc Ferras used the multimic directory for supplementary
  material for his master's thesis.
