Larry Ellison's Driveway (a.k.a. CS270 Project)

Final Requirements

The final set of requirements, as derived from the architects and examples, were as follows:
  1. The pattern should look random, but not too random.
  2. There should be at most 50 unique stones.
  3. The stones should be roughly the same size (about 2 square feet).
  4. Angles should not be too acute.
  5. All the stones may be convex.
In addition to these requirements, there were also a few specified tolerances and aesthetic comments: Obviously, these requirements are not explicit enough to provide a design specification. Rather, they formed the starting point from which I generated trials. By presenting many examples, we were able to narrow down the possibilities.
