ATM Troubleshooting
This page describes in a step by step manner what to do if connections don't work as they should. If the first test fails proceed with the next step and so on. Information about the Host configurations can be found in the
ICSI Host table.
- Check the connection using the ping command. This checks the end to end connectivity.
- Check the pvc tables of the host using pvcarp -a on an Interphase workstation or atmarp -a on a workstation with a Fore adapter. If there is no entry for the destination host, set up a pvc and check the connection again using the ping command.
- To check the switch you can use several tools. Before you can use these tools you have to rlogin at icsib8, redirect the display and type
this
at the commandline or include it in your cshrc file.
- Expanded View:
/usr/lnms/bin/lcell_ev -A \"\" -M 000081074dba:00 -I 128.32.201.58 -R -W -X 39000000000000000000000000
This tool shows a picture of the switch and can be used to monitor and configure several things. To check port related things you must click with the right mouse button on the selected port, then a menu pops up. To see the current connections start the VPI:VCI table in the row Performance. With the Expanded View tool the switch can also be reset (Note: all PVCs are dropped and have to be set up again with the setup_all_pvcs script).
- VPI:VCI table:
/usr/lnms/bin/lcell_dialogs -I 128.32.201.58 -M 000081074dba:00 -N 9 -F 15 -T 5000 -G 10 -R public -W private -X 39000000000000000000000000
This tool shows all setup connections for the switch port specified by the -N option (in the example port 9).
- Performance Statistics:
/usr/lnms/bin/lcell_dialogs -I 128.32.201.58 -M 000081074dba:00 -N 9 -F 33 -T 5000 -G 10 -V 0:901 -O 10 -H NotNeeded -A \"\"
This tool shows a graph of the incomming bitrate in the port specified by the -N option on VPI:VCI specified by the -V option. This tool can also be started directly from the VPI:VCI table tool by marking the selected row with a double click and starting Recorder per VPI:VCI from the Extra menu.
