Welcome

I am a Senior Researcher at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley.

About Me

I received my BA in Linguistics from UC Berkeley in 1986. After completing my Master's degree in Linguistics in 1988 (also at UC Berkeley), I began working at ICSI as a graduate student researcher in the Realization Group (later renamed the Speech Group).

After completing my PhD in "Speech Recognition" in 1993, I went on to hold various research positions in Government, Industry, and Academia including positions with the U.S. Department of Defense, BBN Technologies, ICSI, Computer Motion Inc, Next IT Corp, and the Human Language Technology Center of Excellence at Johns Hopkins University.

My research interests range from speech recognition to spoken language understanding and dialog, machine learning, and system prototyping. I returned to ICSI in July of 2012 as a Senior Researcher.
